VCE Outdoor and Environmental Studies: The Year so far!
The 2025 VCE Outdoor and Environmental Studies classes have had an exciting year, filled with camps and excursions that have given students the chance to explore the environment in new and engaging ways. Here’s a look at some of the highlights so far:
Year 11 Canoe Trip on Dhungala (The Murray River)
The Year 11 students started the year with a canoe trip along Dhungala, the Murray River. This adventure allowed them to experience the river’s ecosystems firsthand, learning about waterway health and the impact of environmental change on local habitats. It was a perfect mix of outdoor adventure and environmental learning.
Year 12 South Gippsland Coastal Environmental Focus Camp
Year 12 students travelled to South Gippsland for a coastal camp focused on environmental conflict and coastal ecosystems. They enjoyed surfing, a local environmental group guest speaker discussion, and visit to local landcare groups, which offered a hands-on understanding of coastal conservation efforts and sustainable management practices.
Local Excursions, sustainability and excursion planning
Back closer to home, students visited Darebin Park to study urban biodiversity and the management of green spaces within the city. They also explored Smith Street outdoor shops, focusing on how technology and sustainability intersect in urban settings. These excursions connected students with local environmental issues and the role of technology in positive experiences in the outdoor environment.
In addition to participating in exciting excursions, Year 11 students are actively planning their own upcoming trips. We’re excited to see what they have in store, as their planning activities allow them to apply their environmental knowledge and creativity to design meaningful and educational experiences.
With so much already accomplished and more to come, this year has been filled with adventure, learning, and growth for our VCE Outdoor and Environmental Studies students!
