School Production Reflection
After 7 months of creativity, experimentation, hard work and determination, on Oct 23 & 24 This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing was performed at Collingwood Town Hall.
The cast and crew were made up of Year 9 & 10 students who were part of the Production Extend, as well as other students across 7-10 who wanted to be involved. To say that these students rose to the occasion is to understate their achievement. Again and again throughout the production process, these young creatives showed themselves to be flexible, resilient and committed to the wider project.
Sewing costumes in their own time? Fine!
Spending their holidays painting an elaborate jigsaw puzzle of 50 boxes? Sure!
Learning complex heightened language and delivering it with emotional honesty? Of course!
Giving up their own time after school and on holidays to be part of the team? Yep!
Trusting when some lady tells you to be a ‘grotesque slime on the floor’? . . . well, yeah, why not?!
I am so proud of what these students achieved and endlessly thankful to all the people who helped them make it a reality.

The school production this year was This Girl Laughs This Girl Cries This girl Does Nothing.
Our production class, along with other students produced and rehearsed this play over the course of 7 months. Throughout the production process, there were many challenges we had to face and overcome, things such as props, learning lines, blocking, etc.
Our tech week at Collingwood town hall started with lots of props being moved around and boxes being set up, and lots of excitement amongst the cast and crew. Our first issue was the lights cutting out last minute, and being told there were no blackouts an hour before doors open. This caused stress among everyone, especially the crew. However we persevered and decided to do a curtain close instead of a blackout and it all worked out in the end. We had some props break and mics disconnected, but through it all, everyone stayed positive, because that’s just the beauty of live theatre.
Once the play was over we were so relieved and proud of ourselves, 7 months of work and finally hitting the milestone.
We would like to thank our amazing crew, directors, stage manager, hair, makeup and costume crew, our props department, of course the rest of our amazing cast, and most of all our wonderful teacher Sara Jane Smith, for making this all possible, we couldn’t have done it without you.
