Italian Language Week
Fitzroy High School celebrated Italian Language Week during the week of November 11, 2024, with a variety of activities designed to immerse students in Italian culture and language. Throughout the week, students had the opportunity to explore different aspects of Italy through engaging, hands-on experiences.
One of the highlights was watching Italian films, allowing students to not only improve their language skills but also to gain a deeper understanding of Italian cinema and storytelling. Students also listened to popular Italian music, adding to the cultural experience and helping them connect with the rhythm and flow of the language.
In addition to these activities, students took part in research projects, creating posters about Italian language and culture. These posters covered a wide range of topics, from Italy’s rich history and art to its famous landmarks and cuisine. The students’ work was proudly displayed in the school corridors, transforming the space into a celebration of Italy. The colourful paper chains in the “tricolore” (the three colours of the Italian flag—green, white, and red) added to the festive atmosphere, brightening up the school.
To make the week even more special, Year 8 and 9 students volunteered as helpers at the Rocco built ‘carretto’ selling traditional Italian treats, including delicious cannoli and gelato. This hands-on involvement allowed students to contribute to the celebration while enjoying authentic Italian food.
