Incursions and Excursions
Victoria Police Incursion
In crime and punishment, 2 police officers came in to teach us. They told us about their experiences as police officers and how the police force worked. It was interesting to find out that police attended most triple-zero calls even if they were unrelated to crime. This is because other first responders are understaffed and less available. They also showed us their equipment including batons (which was surprisingly effective), capsicum spray which they didn’t let us use and their guns which have special hollow point bullets that reduce penetration to prevent civilian casualties.
Emil
We learned about the entry process of becoming an officer and the different ranks. We saw some of the equipment used including the baton, handcuffs and the ammunition used by the officers. We heard some stories from the officers and learned about multicultural officers and their role as an officer.
Hugo
At our incursion with Vic Police yesterday, we learnt that the bullets in the guns are a specific type that are safer to shoot in public spaces, they are hollow and they expand when they penetrate the skin so as not to go through a person and risk the safety of others.

Our visit from Victoria police was an insightful and interesting experience. We got given a first hand experience on people who work with the law every day, who where willing to answer questions and give examples of personal experiences. We are grateful for this opportunity that was given to us.

2 very nice police officers came into our class. We asked questions and they answered them and told us about some experiences with different weapons they’ve had. It was great being able to talk to a police officer.
Kaya
Thank you Tristan and Dinesh for coming to our class, I really enjoyed hearing your stories about the incidents you’ve gotten into on the job and learning about what its like to be a member of the Victorian police, especially when we got to inspect and hear about the various weaponry and tools you use on the job.

On the 19th of august, two police officer guest speakers came in. We asked them questions and they told us valuable information. For example, how long it takes to be a registered officer, what the stripes mean on their shoulders, what items/weapons are carried on them when working and they taught us to always be aware of what’s happening even if your surroundings may seem safe.
Maicy
On one of our Crime and Punishment classes 2 police officers attended to talk about what they do. And I’ve learnt how long you have to stay from the people to taser them.

Pentridge Visit
We visited the Pentridge prison on Tuesday, learning about the history of the establishment and the stories behind it. We learnt about the numerous escapes and the low security of the prison which eventually led to it being shut down. I learnt about the things we take for granted in our day to day lives, and how hard and mistreated the lives of the prisoners were.
Daniel
Pentridge Prison is a beautiful place with a rich history that stems back centuries. We looked at a bunch of different sections of the prison and heard stories of the history and the multiple escapes from the prison before exploring the infamous H-block.
Hugo
On Tuesday we went to Pentridge prison and had a tour with our tour guide Shaun. He showed us around the prison, then continued to tell us about stories from what happened inside the prison. The tour was well put together and he was very engaging.
Joseph
I found it interesting when we stepped on the spot where they were standing and the cells were very old and smelly.

On the 3rd of September, my class and I went to Pentridge Prison. We got to learn so much about the different divisions and how inmates escaped. We also learned that when 2 inmates escaped, it ended up being a car chase for a very short amount of time, and how women were being assaulted. We also learned about the reception biff, which is when you arrive at H division, guards would beat you and hit you as a ‘welcoming’. We also got headphones and a phone to use when we would go into each cell and we learned about different things. It was a great experience and I would definitely go again!
Kaya
On Tuesday we went on an excursion to Pentridge prison, we explored Pentridge’s rich history and various preserved areas with our tour guide Shaun. it was a wonderful experience and I’ll definitely be coming back on my own time to explore it further.

At Pentridge, on the third of September, my class learned about different divisions, how inmates escaped, the car chase with the guns, explored the H division (along with listening to articles about the rooms) and information of the reception biff. Kaya and I made videos and such wonderful memories there and it was a great experience.

On Tuesday the 3rd of September we visited Pentridge Prison for a tour of the place. We learnt about the history of many of the divisions in the prison, specifically H division, where prisoners lived in some of the harshest conditions with the most abuse. Most cells had a story which could be listened to on headphones, and we could walk into and observe each cell. Additional stories about famous escapes and punishments were told by the tour guide, and we learnt what happened over the years.

How they took advantage of the prisoners even if they have learnt their lesson. We were surprised how they lied about things.
