What’s on for young people

Yarra Youth Services 

Yarra Youth Services is for young people between 12 and 25 who live, work, study, or have a connection to Yarra.

We welcome all young people from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences, including CALD, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, LGBTIQ+ young people and young people living with disability.

Come to one of our youth centres to meet our team and learn more about our programs. We’re open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.

Yarra Youth Centre – Fitzroy

110 Elizabeth Street, Richmond.

 

Yarra Libraries 

Yarra STEAM Labs are a reimagining of our much-loved after-school programs for kids. Designed to provide a fun and inclusive place for kids to discover more about science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, you’ll find Labs taking place across our branches on various days throughout the week.

 

Make: Maker Lab

Supervised and hosted by Yarra Libraries

Program robots, make music, shoot movies, draw animations, and learn about STEAM!

Where and when: 
Mondays – Richmond Library 4 – 5 pm
Tuesdays – Bargoonga Nganjin (Noth Fitzroy) 4-5 pm
Thursdays – Carlton Library 3:45 – 4:45 pm
Age: 8+
Cost: Free

 

Create: Art Lab

Supervised and hosted by Yarra Libraries

Let’s get creative each week with some fun arts and crafts.
All materials provided!

Where and when: 
Mondays – Richmond Library 4 – 5 pm
Thursdays – Collingwood Library 4-5 pm
Fridays – Fitzroy Library 3:45 – 4:45 pm

Age: 5+

After-school Homework Group

North Richmond Community Health 

What: After-school Homework Group
Where: In the Community Rooms and Training Room at North Richmond Community Health, 23 Lennox Street, Richmond
When: Tuesdays during the school term
Times: 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm
Age: Prep to year 9
Cost: Free!
Booking required.

Cooking & gardening

Cultivating Community

What: Meal Prepping 101: Hosted By Cultivating Community and Young Assets Foundation. Prepare budget-friendly meals from different cultures in bulk that can be eaten later in the week or frozen for another time.

Where: Richmond Youth Hub
When: Wednesdays during term
Time: 4 – 6 pm
Ages: 13+
Cost: Free!

All materials and afternoon tea provided.

 

The Venny @Cubbies

What: A free, supervised after-school, safe space for young people to play, make friends, use tools, develop skills and safely take risks.

Where: Located at Atherton Gardens, corner of King William Street, Fitzroy.
When: Open Wednesday through to Saturday
Time: Wednesday to Friday, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m, and Saturday, 2 – 4:30 pm
Ages: 5-16 years
Cost: Free

 

Open Studios @YYS

What: Open Studios at Yarra Youth Services is a space for young people to develop their skills in art, and learn from artists in a fun and inclusive environment. This term, Open Studio is facilitated by one of our new Artist in Residence, who is a poet and visual artist. Young people will also be able to work on their own personal projects, with all arts mediums encouraged. All materials and afternoon tea provided.
Where: Yarra Youth Centre, 156 Napier Street, Fitzroy
When: Thursdays
Time: 4 – 6 pm
Ages: Grade 6+
Cost: Open Studios (visual arts) is free to attend

Tuning Into Teens is back in term 3!

Tuning in to Teens™

Interactive small-group program for parents/carers of teens & tweens

The Tuning in to Teens™ program is for parents/carers of children aged 10-15 years who live or study in the City of Yarra. This 6-session, interactive, small-group program is a great opportunity to better understand and help your child as they navigate high school and adolescence. The program helps you reflect on how you can strengthen your relationship with your child and build their emotional intelligence.

These are small-group discussion programs with approx. 8-10 participants.

 

Dadfit

Interactive small-group program for Dads

The free program includes 5 x two- program? hour Dadfit sessions. Each session includes a Workout (45 min), Dad Chat (60 min) and a Dad Challenge. Snacks and refreshments are provided.

Term 3 Program: 
When: Meet weekly, Wednesdays 7- 9pm for five weeks, starting July 31.
Who for: Dad parents/carers. All dads are welcome!
Where: The Factory, 19 Belgium Avenue, Richmond
Cost: Free
