Year 7 Camp
Our Year 7 cohort kicked off the year with an unforgettable camp experience. New friendships formed through sleepless nights and students pushed themselves on adrenaline filled activities and challenges. Beyond the activities and adventures, our students experienced the true essence of camp – friendships, teamwork, growth and the joys of camp food.
Before departing on the morning of the 5th of February, we had some gorgeous slow morning chats with families, parents were waving farewell to students, some, departing for camp for the first time and teachers scrambling to ensure we didn’t forget anything or anyone…
When we got to camp we were greeted by friendly camp staff and had morning tea and an opportunity to stretch our legs. Students dashed straight to the Gaga pit, volleyball courts, basketball courts and explored the campsite during this time before getting allocated their cabins where they all excitedly raced for the top bunks.
The camp activities that followed were met with boundless energy and enthusiasm. Our adventure began with a fiery start as students created fire, made damper and worked together to make a shelter out of enormous logs. Tried and tested, very few shelters were waterproof. For our own amusement, the teachers poured buckets of dam water on top of them. Let this be a joyous lesson that they won’t forget. Students also took to the waters in canoes and for a bit of a swim, soared across beautiful landscapes on a flying fox and hit the Macedon Ranges on their mountain bikes. From navigating winding paths to conquering rugged terrain with impressive jumps and mastering higher and higher heights, they embraced the thrill of adventure and discovery.
In the evening after dinner our Year 7 students unashamedly collaborated in a variety of smaller challenges. In teams, they competed in games such as an m&m race using only chopsticks, pantyhose bowling, construction of a shoe tower, and many more. Physical feats, mental marvels and downright silliness that had everyone in stitches. However, the true bonds and friendships were formed at night during their sleepless nights chatting away in their cabins talking about their day and who their new friends were.
So while some sleepy faces were in the mix, rest assured that we had a lot of fun and laughter too. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Year 7 team, Tim, Oli, Mitch, Linda, and all our office staff: Maddy, Rachel, Amanda and Bella for all the work that they put into making this camp happen and ensuring that our students were all supported and present for this experience. I am beyond impressed with the Year 7s by their lively spirits and camaraderie during the camp and I’m excited for all the Year 7 events to come. It was an absolute blast!
Thank you to all the families for letting us borrow them for a couple of days. It’s been wonderful.
