Reconciliation Action Plan Working Party
During Reconciliation Week in Term 2, Fitzroy High School held its first Reconciliation Action Plan Working Party meeting. A group of students and teachers, First Nations and Non-Indigenous alike, sat down to discuss what steps our school can take towards Reconciliation. With our school’s Koori Engagement Support Officer, Barry Firebrace – who has recently been elected to the Victorian Treaty Assembly representing the Yorta Yorta people – spoke at length about Voice, Treaty and Truth, and about what affirmative actions schools can take towards reconciliation.
Our Reconciliation Action Plan Working Party has several more meetings scheduled this term. We invite all FHS students who are interested in contributing to this group to please be in touch with Imogen (imogen.lazarus@education.vic.gov.au) or to speak with their Advisor. We are hoping to broaden this conversation to include families and the broader community later in 2023.
