Dante Alighieri Poetry Competition Finals
Bright and early on Friday 21 June, five enthusiastic Year 9 Italian students left school camp and made their way back to Melbourne. With a car, a bus, a V Line train, and a tram, we made it to the University of Melbourne to participate in the Dante Alighieri Poetry Recitation Competition.
The Poetry Recitation Competition is a staple of the Italian teaching calendar. Of the original 1473 students who participated in the competition from across the state, only 144 made it to the finals; it was a joy to have five Fitzroy High School students make it all the way to the finals. Each of our students had selected a poem to learn off by heart and then had to present it in front of two judges.
We are very proud of all of our FHS students who participated in the competition and are looking forward to acknowledging the success of all participants – especially our finalists – at an assembly soon.
