Commedia dell’Arte at FHS
Over the end of Term 2 and the start of Term 3, Year 7, 8 and 9 students were able to experience different Commedia dell’Arte activities by the company Make S Scene to help support their work in Drama and Italian.
Late in Term 2, Year 8 & 9 students attended a performance of Venice in Love that combined key aspects of Carnevale with the characters and conventions of Commedia dell’Arte that students had studied during Year 7 Drama. It was great to see students (and staff) getting involved with the very silly story. Our students also really embodied our school values, showing respect for the performers and asking a range of interesting questions at the end of the performance.
Term 3 started with Mason from Make A Scene returning to run Commedia workshops with all of our Year 7 students. These 90 minute workshops got students up and moving and playing with some of the stock characters and lazzi that we also look at during Explore Drama. Students seemed to really enjoy playing with the slapstick aspects of Commedia and it has been great to see them using what they learned from Mason in our Drama classes.
