Reconciliation Week at Fitzroy High School
Fitzroy High School is starting to take active steps towards Reconciliation and we want to build community engagement with this topic throughout Reconciliation Week and beyond.
This year, Reconciliation Week at FHS was particularly important: we had our first Reconciliation Action Plan Working Party meeting. This is a huge step towards envisaging what Reconciliation should look like at Fitzroy High School. We want to work in partnership with all stakeholders to ensure this process allows all voices to be heard and actively promotes engagement, equity, and opportunity. This work will be ongoing and we look forward to reporting the activities of the Reconciliation Action Plan Working Party soon.
It was also wonderful to see students and staff participating in block printing “Always Was Always Will Be” t-shirts, jumpers, and tote bags. Thanks to the wonderful Jess and Joe, everyone could bring along an item of clothing or other material to print on and show their solidarity.
In line with the theme “Be a Voice for Generations”, it was also great to see all students participate in a lesson on the history behind the song From Little Things Big Things Grow. This gave all students a chance to engage more deeply with the Reconciliation Week theme and continue their learning journey around truth telling and Australia’s history.
The Fitzroy High School community is proud to be learning on Wurundjeri land and we all look forward to our next steps towards Reconciliation.
