Schools Climate Event
On Friday the 24th of February 2023, FHS’ very own Climate Club networked with MGC and the City of Yarra to attend a schools climate event facilitated by local artists and climate activists. Students from Fitzroy’s Climate Club engaged in conversations about what the climate emergency meant to them; their thoughts, feelings, concerns, hopes and ideas for tackling the challenges that we now are facing.
We were welcomed by the Melbourne Playback Theatre Company and ClimActs who theatrically set the tone for the afternoon. We engaged in workshops with Gustavo Morales who has created iconic posters for tackling hard to swallow issues and live movement alongside our art workshop with Caitlin Dear to create a spectacle, disrupt and disarm our community by starting conversations from emotive and curious points of view.
The energy in the room was eclectic. Made all the more vibrant with a live violinist (Ernie Gruner) to set the scene for us, a true vibe master. Students worked enthusiastically with the artists who evoked so much thought and feeling. We can’t wait to shake up the scene back at FHS with everything we learnt from the afternoon. Watch this space!
