VicSRC Congress 2022
Last term, Thomas H, Cayley D and Veronica C from our 7-10 campus got the opportunity to attend the VicSRC Congress. Hosted by the student voice organisation VicSRC (Victorian Student Representative Council), Congress is an annual event where students from around the state come together to share and work on their ideas on how the education system in Victoria can be improved. Here’s what our students who attended the event had to say:
Thomas: I was nothing short of pleased when I got the opportunity to attend the VicSRC Congress this year. Having already attended it during 2020 (albeit in a very online setting) I was looking forward to bringing my prior knowledge and experience to this year’s in-person event.
After a pitch session at the start of the day where I got to hear and share some amazing ideas, everybody voted on their favourite proposals and were split into action teams to work on them. The group I was assigned to got the chance to look at how we can improve students’ mental health in VCE. Even though VCE isn’t something some members of the group, myself included, had experienced yet, everybody was able to contribute some great ideas towards our final product. Our action plan involved possibilities for how to limit stress throughout VCE, such as regular sessions devoted towards maintaining positive mental health.
I was overall really proud to be able to learn and work with such a diverse and amazing group of people and highly recommend the experience.
PS the T-shirts we got were awesome! (I wear it regularly)
Cayley: My impression of the event was that it was super informative. It made me think and problem solved issues I had never put much thought into before. We split up into action groups and worked with other schools to collaborate on some solutions that were presented at the start of the day. As a member of the SRT this event was quite eye opening and I left with some ideas that can be brought into our school community after talking to some other school representatives. At the end we were sent home with some cool souvenirs like a SRT themed keep cup and t-shirt.
