SRT Update
The Student Representative Team (SRT) this year has representatives from Year levels 8, 9 and 10 who have been working diligently to get student clubs running at lunchtimes throughout the week. With the assistance of Campbell and Linda, we have surveyed the students for the lunchtime clubs and activities they would like offered at Fitzroy High and now have an offering for each day of the school week. We are now thrilled to offer clubs and activities related to: Dance, Debating, Books and Film, Art, Music, Sports and Fitness, and Board Games. I’d like to extend a huge thanks to the wonderful staff who have offered up their time to get these up and running.
The school and SRT are working at the moment to raise money for a school pool table to add another lunchtime club to the existing ones. We have seen tremendous engagement with pool through the ‘Lifelong Sports’ P.E program and the idea received overwhelming support from the students when surveyed on what clubs they would like to see at FHS. Thank you to the students and parents who contributed to the bake sale held on the 13th of June to raise money for this cause.
In other school leadership news, FHS sent our school and house leaders to the Secondary Youth Leaders Conference where they got the chance to develop their leadership and public speaking skills with leaders from other Victorian schools. Anya H, Audrey E and Jacob H also had the unique opportunity to address the council leaders and the mayor of Yarra Council about issues relating to young people in our community. These three represented the school and their peers with aplomb in discussing sophisticated issues with council members who were incredibly impressed by our students’ dedication to climate action and sustainability.
