Debating Update
On Wednesday 11 June, our Year 10 Debating Team competed in their first advised topic for the season against Haileybury. The topic was: All schools should have a mandatory electricity-free day once a month. With only one hour to prepare, the team rose to the challenge with impressive confidence and composure.
Jane B opened the debate as first speaker, followed by Jamie S and Anya H. It was a closely contested debate, with just one point separating the teams. Fitzroy High ultimately claimed the win, with adjudicators praising our team’s “stronger rebuttals” and their “collaboration and cohesiveness”.
Congratulations to the entire team for representing Fitzroy High with pride and professionalism. Thank you to Jhonan J for jumping in at the last minute to help the team prepare. And a special shout out to Jamie S, who was awarded Best Speaker—an outstanding achievement as the only Year 9 student in a Year 10 team!
