Yr 10 Work Experience and Pathways
The FHS team would like to recognise our Yr 10 students who have completed their work experience program at the end of term two. We hope you learned some valuable skills and that the experience has given you a clearer picture of what the ‘next steps’ in your life might look like. Thank you also to our parents and wider community for giving our students the opportunity to experience a workplace for a week, we hope you made them earn it! Well done to all students involved.
In terms of next steps, our Year 10s have been getting advice in Discover classes and Year 10 assemblies about the course selection and pathways process for 2026. Year 10s have had the opportunity to attend the Careers Expo and VCE pathways seminar and the Senior Programs Information night, both held at the Wurun Senior Campus.
In classes next week, students will get further information about the subjects and pathways on offer in 2026 and beyond, and get advice on how to begin selecting their course for the future. Students will be bringing home information to assist in their decision making and communication about the processes will be communicated by Compass and email to all students and families.
Operation NewStart
Congratulations to Yr 9 & 10 students Frankie, Leo and Jade who graduated from the Operation NewStart program for term two through Yarra Youth Services. Using a combination of experiential learning, wilderness therapy, family group work, mediation, counselling and community interconnectedness, the program focuses on engaging students with schools and to prepare pathways to further education and employment.
SRT Fundraising
The Fitzroy High Student Representative Team (SRT) ran a fundraising bake-off on Friday the June 13th to help raise money for the school’s Lunchtime Clubs committee, and specifically, to help buy a pool table for the school. There has been tremendous engagement with pool through the ‘Lifelong Sports’ P.E program and the idea received overwhelming support from the students when asked about what clubs they would like to see at FHS. Thank you to the students, families and teachers who contributed by baking something. The SRT are not far off their fundraising target, thank you to everyone who purchased something!

Breakfast Club
It’s been a fantastic start to the Food Bank program at Fitzroy High School. This program was an initiative brought in by the wonderful admin team. We’d like to thank the admin team for their work and energy around this initiative.
So far FHS has in place the following:
- A dedicated fruit and vegetable stand for all students to access from the front foyer.
- An early morning breakfast is offered every Friday before school in the TDU.
- Two recess breakfast club offerings in the TDU on Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Emergency lunches supplied for students who may have forgotten their lunch (stored in the admin office) and can be accessed via request.
- Next term the Breakfast Club will be running on Monday’s, Wednesday’s, and Friday’s from 8:15am – 8:50am
The Food Bank program has been very well received by our students. It’s available to everyone and there are no stipulations around who has access to the food provided. It’s been a wonderfully engaging time and particularly popular in this cold weather when there’s an offering of yummy toasted sandwiches.
We currently have a parent helper volunteering their time to support the recess breakfast club sessions. If anyone is interested in supporting this wonderful program please email fitzroy.hs@education.vic.gov.au
