Book Week at FHS
Last month we celebrated Book Week at FHS with a number of events that went towards raising funds for the World Literacy Foundation and to celebrate the magic of reading.
Throughout the school, we displayed book recommendation posters from both students and teachers to share some of our favourite books within the school community. In the library, we also set up displays of these recommendations, many of these were borrowed by students and staff throughout the week.
Part of our celebrations also included a Book Week Book Club, Read-A-Thon and of course, our character-dress up day where students and staff dressed up as their favourite book characters. After an unlikely duo, Professor McGonagall and Ms Trunchbull visited the classes, 7Y were awarded the best dressed and will have a class lunch in the last week of term. We would also like to congratulate Ivy H in 8Y who won the Read-A-Thon, stacking up over 40 hours of reading during book week!
We also had our second-hand book stall in the library all week, where students could purchase one of the hundreds of books donated by the school community. We are incredibly thankful to the generous donations from families, students and staff for some fantastic books that have found themselves new homes. The purchasing of books during book week went directly towards the World Literacy Foundation, where this year, funds were donated to children in Uganda to help build libraries and provide greater access to texts.
Thanks to the generous donations from the Fitzroy High School community, we were able to donate just under $300 to the charity, and we have recently heard back that books have already been delivered to Uganda, Please take a moment to watch this special video below:
