FHS Upcoming School Review

Dear Fitzroy High School community,

I am writing to advise about the upcoming school review for Fitzroy High School which will take place in Term 4 2023. The review will include a shared focus on Wurun Senior Campus as part of the senior program partnership between Fitzroy High School and Collingwood College.

All schools must participate in a school review every 4 years.  The school review:

• provides assurance of ongoing compliance with the minimum requirements for school registration
• informs the development of the school’s 4 year School Strategic Plan (SSP).

The school review process supports improving student outcomes by:

• providing an independent assessment of a school’s performance on achieving learning and wellbeing growth for every student, and the extent to which internal conditions support ongoing improvement
• offering an opportunity for schools to engage deeply with their school’s data and evidence to identify achievements and areas for growth, and reflect on practices that influence school improvement (FISO 2.0 core elements – Framework for Improving Student Outcomes)
• acting as a catalyst for change and supports longer-term strategic planning for schools.

At Fitzroy High School we know that effective schools create opportunities for inclusive engagements to occur across our school and community, helping to improve student outcomes.  We also understand the importance of family/school partnerships and welcome opportunities for collaborative involvement in our upcoming school review and we will encourage and support students to participate by sharing their voice during the review process.

This week and next week, during after school meetings, staff are contributing to the pre-review self-evaluation (PRSE) by analysing data and sharing their insights and observations about the school’s practice and performance. This involves looking back on what’s been achieved and looking forward to priorities for the next 4 years. School Council parents did the same in the School Council Meeting on July 25.

The next steps in the self-evaluation process will include running similar sessions with students and a similar session with parents and carers. Please look out for a communication asking you to support the school review through involvement in focus groups and other activities during the PRSE process.  In term 4, we also ask you to consider taking part in focus groups and other activities occurring on the review fieldwork days.
