Blue Light Victoria in partnership with Victoria Police, is delivering its flagship program Blue EDGE to year 9 students at Fitzroy High School, this term on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Blue EDGE (Educate, Develop, Grow, Empower) aims to build positive relationships between young people and local police members through fitness engagement.
Delivered as a before-school breakfast program, Blue EDGE is an 8-week term program, running twice weekly.
Blue EDGE has three key components:
1. Physical fitness training – where youth participants and police members work-out together with the Blue EDGE Fitness Trainer;
2. A shared breakfast meal;
3. A workshop discussion covering a variety of wellbeing and leadership topics including team building games run by police members and guest speaker presentations from community members
The Blue EDGE program pairs fun fitness challenges and team building exercises within a framework focusing on the youth participants holistic wellbeing and capacity as young leaders. The students are resourced with tools they can draw upon in various areas of their
lives. Consistent police presence allows for great rapport to be built, with ease of questions asked, stories shared and open dialogue and discussion around the topics explored. The program aims to enhance the young participants resources and capacity to actualise their potential, building solid support networks with police members and their wider community.
