The biggest challenge for schools today is the same as in the past – how to best prepare young people for the future.
Today that future is arguably less certain than in the past. Young people will be required to solve problems we don’t yet know about, take on careers in fields that are not yet imagined, and face emerging issues concerning the environment, the use of technology, and the processes of globalisation.
We must provide opportunities for our students to gain the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to successfully move on to the next phase of their lives in a swiftly changing world.
Our curriculum programs in Years 7 to 10 are designed to do that. While our curriculum addresses the Victorian Essential Learning Standards, the way we organise teaching and learning provides an integrated approach to assist students make sense of and see connections between different areas of learning.
Our aim is to nurture in our students a love of learning, a curiosity about the world in which they live, and the capacity to be self-motivated, independent learners.
We know that students are not all the same, and so our approach is to personalise their learning. The beginning points may be different but the expectations are the same.
We give our students many opportunities to expand their horizons through enrichment programs in the classroom, in the community and in the world of work.
Our VCE program offers a wide choice of subjects that respond to student interests and career directions. Students have opportunities to enrich their senior studies with Vocational Education and Training programs, early start VCE studies and specialised community and scholarship programs.
Every day at Fitzroy High School, I see students excelling in what they do – as active participants in the many activities of school life, as learners and contributors in classes, as school ambassadors, and as polite, caring and responsible young people.
I believe that Fitzroy High School is a place that values and respects young people and their families, a school that has high expectations of students’ academic and social achievements and a school that provides a broad range of opportunities in which young people can excel.
Welcome to our learning community.
